How To Start an NA Meeting

Step 1: Study The Group Booklet available at www.na.org/ips and check out other NA literature on the page.

Step 2: Gain support from other NA members in or near your community by attending NA meetings and letting members know you intend to start a new group.

Step 3: Find a meeting place; determine the day(s) and time(s) of the meeting.

Step 4: Develop your meeting format. Remember you can change it as you find what works and what doesn’t.

Step 5: Review the Local Service Resource page support materials, including sample meeting formats: www.na.org/localresources These can be adapted to meet your group’s needs.

Step 6: Contact your local Area Services Committee to announce your new group.

This body usually oversees: • Local NA website that will list the meeting • Local Subcommittees such as Literature, Phoneline and Public Relations • Host Area Services Committee meetings where all groups meet monthly to decide on

Step 7: Register and update your group’s meeting information with your local Website Chair and Phoneline chair.

Step 8: Establish guidelines for managing the group’s funds. The Group Booklet will be available from the Literature Subcommittee and the Area Service Committee can provide an induction.

Step 9: Get literature. This is ordered from the Literature subcommittee who have predetermined collection days.
